A Day of Fifth Grade Homeschooling

By Barbara Christensen - 8:46 AM

Homeschooling... I loved it, then I hated it, then I loved it some more. When she was younger it was so much easier, but now, not so much. Fifth grade has been complicated over the summer. However, I have finally gotten my groove back. So I thought I would share a day of Fifth Grade Homeschooling from last week with you to help give you ideas.

We have struggled with finding a math program that works for my daughter. If your child has ADHD, you understand. If your child also has Dyscalculia (Math Blind) then you are reading with wonder. What will work? We have found that Teaching Textbooks is a fantastic opportunity to keep reinforcing what she's learning to drill it home. We've done Singapore, We've tried Saxon, we've done just about every math program you can imagine. So sharing this is hopefully going to help you, the way it is helping us.

Every day we log into the computer (it's on a disc) and we start by going over the problems she missed the day before. Then she moves onto the next lesson which starts with a TT Lecture and then the practice. We're several days behind in the Math Workbook so that she can yet again, reinforce those lessons we just went through.

Also last year we started using Oak Meadow for some of our curriculum. It's been amazing. I love the English/History combination as well as the science. We've completely failed at embroidery so far. Thankfully I have a homeschooling community to turn to.

The Biosphere ("Life sphere") includes all living things: the trees in the park, the birds in the air, the fly on your wall, the viruses that make you sick, your pets, and even you and all your friends!
The Atmosphere ("Air Sphere") is the envelope of air that surrounds the whole Earth.
The Exo- or Celestial Sphere ("Outside or heavenly sphere") includes the whole universe beyond the top of the atmosphere--the Sun, Moon, and stars, as well as the asteroids and the little bits of dust that make meteors when they hit the atmosphere.
